Perfect Gift for the Koi Person!

Whether you are a koi fish person yourself, or you know one, this is a great koi person gift.

We all like to own things and carry things around that represent the things that are important to us.  What better than this hot drink holder? It can hold drinks up to 180 degrees and is very attractive.  No more plain silver or black mug....or even worse, the cardboard coffee cup you get every morning at the convenience store.  One of these Vessel KOI-79475 14-Ounce KOI Fish Laguna, Orange is a must!

Your Koi Fish Need Shelter

When planning or adding to your koi fish pond, keep in mind that your fish will need shelter.  Koi fish need shelter from the sun and weather.  They also will require shelter and protection from predators.

This koi fish shelter and protection can come in the form of koi pond plants or artificial shelters that you can purchase.  Artificial shelters can be a very attractive addition to your pond.  Many are made to look like natural rock.

Your koi fish will need shelter when they are trying to protect their babies as well. If you provide the proper shelter, they will be happy fish!

Choosing Your Koi Pond Filter

Whether you are just starting out or just need a new filter, this is not an area to try to save money.  You will just end up back at the store, or online, to order a new filter.  A quality filter can mean the difference between dead fish and live fish.  Proper koi pond filtration is essential.

You will need to know what size pond you are going to build, how much water your filter will be working on and how many fish you have now and how many you plan to have.

If in doubt, it is always best to go with a larger filter.  You can't make a filter that is too small bigger, but you can adjust a large filter and have room for expansion, too!

You can visit Koi Fish Ponds and Care for info.

Hand Feed Your Koi Fish

Now that the weather is warming up and your fish are being a lot more active, why not learn to hand feed your koi fish?  Training your koi fish to hand feed is easy with a little patience.  It just takes time.

The key to gettting your fish to trust you is to start slow.  It is all a process of working your way in.

First, you feed the fish and stand in the area nearby.  Don't be loud or make sudden movements.  Just be still, but be in their line of sight.  You will need to do this until they are not hesitant with you around.

For the rest of the steps, visit how to hand feed your koi fish.

Your Koi Fish are Waking Up!

You may have noticed that your koi fish are becoming much more active as the weather warms up.  This is normal.  When they become noticeably more active, you will have to feed them a bit more as they burn more energy.  Remember, they are not built like us and can not store food for energy.  They need to be fed accordingly.

Not only is this a time of more food, but it is a time that you will enjoy as your fish become more active, come toward the top of the pond more and are just more fun to watch!
